He tried to do what was right
\nbut it always turned out wrong
\nthe heavenly host were not impressed
\nand he had to blow out of town<\/p>\n
he came to earth near Phoenix
\nin the middle of summertime
\nhe walked to the first bar he saw
\nand ordered whiskey, beer, and wine<\/p>\n
[] An angel came down from heaven
\nhoping to get away [to clear his name]
\nhe stewed in the hotel bar all night
\nand baked by the pool all day<\/p>\n
He pushed the desk clerk to a breakdown (breakdown breakdown)
\nand drove the other guests away
\nhe punched out the hotel detective (–tective –tective)
\nand ran off with the pretty dark eyed maid<\/p>\n
They laid out on the lam for 40 days and nights
\nand on the 41st they had to rest
\nthe pretty dark eyed maid was all worn out
\nand the angel was scared to death<\/p>\n
he knew they’d have no trouble tracking him down
\nangels have this certain glow
\nand when they said it was time to leave
\nBuddy, then it’s time to go<\/p>\n

\nhoping to get away
