Without Warning

Y O U C A M E W I T H O U T W A R N I N G

You came without warning
on a monday morning
the day was all shot through
by shadows from the past
afterimages of the last
time that I was with you

and it didn’t take nothing
to see that I was something
that you just had to do
Well it mighta been right
on a Monday night
to release a little energy with you
— it mighta been right
in the end it came down to you

And I didn’t mean maybe
when I put it to you baby
There’s just time space and nothing more
But instead of pain
we could have pleasure again
just like before you heard about the fall

so when you come come
come come come around me
please take some form
take some from I can see
Well ghosts are fine
but I like some flesh on mine
Ya can’t steal my love
Ya can’t have my love for free

There Ain’t No Heart in My Heart No More

Search AYoS | Random Song Lyric

THERE AIN’T NO HEART IN MY HEART NO MORE

There ain’t no heart
in my heart no more
I don’t know where it’s gone
but it’s gone for sure
Maybe it went with you
when you went out that door
but there just ain’t no heart
in my heart no more

i feel like giving up and maybe I should
I cant go on and I know it’s no good
There aint no meaning
in life any more
no there aint no heart
in my heart anymore

The end just means
we begin again
where did you say I signed
I’ve lived this life
one two many times
I don’t think I can take it twice

Too many loves
too many lies
too many broken lives

too much night
and way too little love
and nothing to show for a life

Takin All the Plastic (Leavin’ All the Bills Behind)

my baby left me
left me sad and cryin (high & dry)
x2
she said I’m takin the plastic
leaving all these bills behind

I got a hearing monday down in
bankruptcy court number nine
2x
My baby won’t be there with me
an neither wil my credit ine

>Oh baby those checks you wrote
to the dress and jewelry stores
You hung so much bad paper
they won’t take my (dough) cash no more
>Telecredits got a file on you
takes ten thousand floppy disks
TRW blew a main frame
just counting your bad checks
>You drove me to the poorhouse
and shoved me thru the door
but first ya picked my pocket
to make sure they was no more

alternate verse 2:

I got a hearing monday down in
bankruptcy court number nine
My baby won’t be there with me

Baby’s On TV

Search AYoS | Random Song Lyric

Baby’s On TV

Send for the doctor
send for the priest
The End must be coming
’cause Baby’s On TV
She’s talking with her eyes

She couldn’t hold a job
could hardly spell her name
now she’s lunching at the polo lounge
and wintering in spain
(she’s speaking from her heart)
she’s talking with her eyes

I’d been expecting
to be surprised
but when I saw that advert
the sun fell from the sky
she’s talking with her eyes
saying what a fool I’ve been to never realize

just an average girl next door
without an ounce of style
now she’s a jetset darling
soul-kissing me good-bye
shes talking with her eyes

[bridge]

I met her in a cross-dress bar
down in San Antone
She was draped across some gigolo
and most of her clothes were gone

Her eyes were blue her hair was green
and her legs were impossibly long
but most of all it was her blank-eyed stare
that really turned me on

I knew right then
she was the only one
who would ever break my heart
I took her home and we settled down
in the Camelot Trailer Park

But Fate intervened in the mall that day
at the Spokesmodel Try-Out Fair
they loved her look they loved her legs
they loved here blank-eyed stare

[bridge ends]

send for a doctor send for the priest
the End must be coming ’cause Baby’s On TV
Shes talking with her eyes

Shes got clothes She’s got cars
she’s seen with politicians
she’s seen with handsome stars
I’m sitting home watching baby on TV

Babys on TV
Babys on TV

she’s talking with her eyes
saying what a fool I’ve been to never realize

Daddy’s Rented Cadillac

Search AYoS | Random Song Lyric

DADDY’S CADILLAC

When I left the high school dance A7
in my daddy’s rented Cadillac
I didn’t know what trouble was Dmin
I didn’t know there was no way back A7

The moon was a hole in the night sky Dmin
heaven knows who was looking in A7
The night was a hole in my life Dmin
and I didn’t know I was falling in A7

I made it past dead man’s curve
and the cliff at the top of the hill
I glided deftly through the hairpin turns
past the old graveyard that’s not quite full

I drove up that twisted mountain road
straight up into the night
Now I was totally all alone
drving through a hole in my life

My heart was pounding but my hands were dry
The engine was throbbing and the gears whined
My mind was racing at the speed of light
and my knuckles on the wheels glowed ghostly white

My life was the road and the road was my life
as it twisted and turned into the night
The road was the world and the world was night
as I rounded the bend and drove straight into the light

My eyes were shadows in the back of my brain
My mind was unravelling and my soul was in flames
The car was gone I was cut loose in space
Dogs from heaven laughed in my face

I was spinning I was falling I was going down
fallilng through a world without light or sound
I was watching from a hill from far away
when the Caddy hit the gas truck —

They Own the Judges

Search AYoS | Random Song Lyric

T H E Y O W N T H E J U D G E S

They own the judges
they own the congress
they own the papers
and the magazines

they own the cops
they own the armies (and)
the think that they own
you and me

They own the doctors
they get rich from our suffering
they own the churches
and the sinners inside

they own the colleges
the print-outs of knowledge
they own and use history
to their own ends

they own the farms
they own the farmers
they own the factories
and the workers lives

they own the gangsters
and they run the wores
they own Vegas
and the gamblers (trapped) inside

they move in the shadows
of presidents and corporations
the means of production
in a handful of hands

you can’t live without money
they enslave us with wages
they pull the strings
that make you and me dance.

The phrase “print-out of knowledge” is from the original song. I was taking computer classes in 1973 and 1980 and was fascinated with technological terminology, sometimes to the detriment of my songwriting.

Blue Recollection

BLUE RECOLLECTION (I) [original – rewritten incorporating war on alcohol]
Now the last thing I remember
You were walking out the door
Yes the last thing I remember
You were walking walking out that door
My hand reached for the bottle
and then there ain’t no more

you’re just a blue recollection
I swear y’ain’t nothing more

I wake up at nite
but it ain’t because of you
Oh yeah I wake up at nite
but it sure ain’t because of you
I’m just listening to the plaster crack
and the clock tick in the next guy’s room

you’re just a blue recollection
but that ain’t nothing new

Maybe ya gave me a rough time baby
but lya didn’t tear my world apart
I been kicked around by bigger than you baby
Ya didn’t tear my world apart
In fact I knew you’d be trouble
Way back at the Start

You’re just a blue recollection
it ain’t like ya broke my heart

BLUE RECOLLECTION

Now the last thing I remember
You were walking out the door
My hand reached for the bottle
then there ain’t no more

you’re just a blue recollection
I swear that ain’t nothin’ new
I been having trouble forgetting to remember that I don’t still love you

I wake up at nite
but it ain’t because of you
I’m just listening to the plaster crack
and the clock tick in the next guy’s room

you’re just a blue recollection
I swear that ain’t nothin’ new

Rubber Room Rock

RUBBER ROOM ROCK
last prev edit 8/2/90 (written 1984?)

used to twist and do the jerk
they don’t let me do that no more
now all I do is do the worm
in my straight jacket down on the floor

but I still rock
I still rrock
I do the Rubber Room Rock
Oh yea I rock
I still rock
I do the Rubber Room Rock

Used to slam and bang my head
ten thousand stage dives or more
dove forty feet from a PA tower
and went three feet into the floor

But I still rock
yeah I rock . . .

None of my friends are no fun no more
they just sit in the dayroom and stare at the floor
they come back from the lab with dark rings round their eyes
“therapy’s too expensive–so we lo-bot-o-mize!”

But they still rock
oh yeah we rock
we do the Rubber Room Rock
Oh sure we rock
unh hunh we rock
we do the Rubber Room Rock

Someone Said Something

Search AYoS | Random Song Lyric

Someone said something
or I’d have never known
Someone said something
and I never went home

In the arms of another man
the needle still in your vein
You finally transcended
Now you’re cheating on a higher plane

Someone said something . . .

What are a few bad habits
between old friends
you were a junky and a trollop
but I loved you to the end

Someone said something . .

Policemen and photographers
and a local station’s mini-cam
I’ll keep it on the VCR
and watch it over and over again

Someone said something . . .

THE WORLD OF LIES

Meet me in the world of lies
meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
meet me in the world of lies

You know that love is just a foolish game
Love always fades away
I know that you won’t stay
but at least you’re hear today

Meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
Something in me dies
everytime a dream slips by

I know that I’ll always be alone
I know life is just to die
a wise man gives up the world
but I guess I’m just not that wise

Meet me in the world of lies
let’s be hypnotized
Don’t let this dream die
meet me in the world of lies
